About This Work
Takano Ryoichi (1907–?), known by his artist name Shizan, was a Japanese metal artist from Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. Active during the early Showa period (1926–1989), he became known for his refined bronze works often inlaid with silver. Mastering traditional techniques such as takazogan (raised inlay), Takano earned recognition at several national art and craft exhibitions. His creations are distinguished by their elegant forms and meticulous detailing, and are typically signed “Shizan.” Although the exact date of his death remains unknown, his work continues to be admired for its technical excellence and timeless beauty.
