Short Description
A hard-edge abstract composition in pink and green, its two interlocking biomorphic forms spanning the picture plane in a rounded, stem-like idiom characteristic of late1960s Japanese abstraction. The canvas is glued to a hardboard panel and set in a beech wood frame. The reverse bears the title, reading "Kaho," and the artist's signature in black ink, together with a dedicatory inscription in English reading "S.43.10.14 Tomko Happy Birthday."
ONO Kyoji (1924–2008) was a Japanese painter associated with the Wakayama region. In 1968 he was among twenty artists selected for the 5th Artists Today Exhibition (Kyo no Sakka 68 Ten) at the Yokohama Civic Art Gallery, held 1–11 November under an organizing committee including the critics Shuzo Takiguchi and Yusuke Nakahara — exhibiting alongside Shinohara Ushio, Yoshimura Masunobu, and Iida Yoshikuni. He has since been included posthumously in group exhibitions of deceased Wakayamaaffiliated painters at Galerie Buffet Five, Kainan (2021, 2022, 2023).
