Short Description
Kasai Taizo was born in Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, where he lived and worked throughout his life. Takaoka has been a centre of Japanese metal casting since the early Edo period (1603–1868), and Kasai's work is deeply rooted in this distinguished regional tradition.
In 1950 his work was first selected for the Nitten, the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition, today the largest and most prominent annual art exhibition in Japan. He was awarded the Tokusen (Special Selection Prize) for his entries in 1963 and 1970. In 1971, the following year, he was commissioned by the Imperial Household Agency to create a flower vase.
