Short Description
A small round-lidded tea caddy worked in low-relief black lacquer, the domed lid decorated with a flowering cherry branch set against a pale blue-green ground. The interior is finished in nashiji, gold flecks suspended within layers of amber-toned lacquer, giving a mottled, sparkling effect reminiscent of pear skin. The core is turned wood. Signed on the base Senri saku ("made by Senri"). Accompanied by its tomobako, inscribed niwazakura urushiga chaki ("lacquered tea utensil with an image of a cherry tree in a garden") and signed Senri saku with the seal Senri, together with a small brocade storage pouch.
Condition: excellent with minor traces of use
