Short Description
Seated in dhyana pose on a double lotus throne, the figure shown in meditation with both hands raised in mudra before the chest, the right hand a later replacement. The robe is carved in thick, rolled folds that fall asymmetrically over the shoulders and lap, leaving the chest bare. The face is broad and serene, with downcast eyes, a faint urna, and elongated pierced earlobes. The wood carries a lacquer ground in reddish brown, with remaining traces of gilding worn through in places to reveal the lacquer beneath; the reverse and the underside of the base retain larger passages of black lacquer. The double lotus base is carved in two tiers of overlapping petals. The underside of the base bears the inscribed mark "EX 32."
Condition: losses to the lacquer and various old restorations, including the right hand.
