Short Description
WATANABE Seitei (1852–1918), also known as WATANABE Shotei, was a Nihonga painter and one of the first Japanese artists to travel to Europe. He attended the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris, where he was awarded a medal. He brought a new approach to kachoga, bird-and-flower painting, by combining Western realism with the delicate colours and washes of the KIKUCHI Yosai school.
