Short Description
Nakajima Hiroshi was a distinguished Japanese potter celebrated for his exquisite celadon ceramics. Born in Yumino, Saga Prefecture, he began his independent career in 1969, drawing deeply from the refined aesthetics of Song dynasty ceramics and the dignified forms of ancient Chinese bronzes. His works are admired for their radiant glazes, graceful silhouettes, and unparalleled technical mastery.
Throughout his career, Nakajima received numerous prestigious awards, including the Minister of Education Prize, the Prime Minister’s Prize, and the Ceramic Society of Japan Award. Recognized for his lifelong dedication to the art of celadon, he was designated an Intangible Cultural Asset of Saga Prefecture in 1990 and honored as a Living National Treasure of Japan in 2007.
His works are held in major public collections, including the British Museum (London), the Baur Collection (Geneva), and the National Crafts Museum (Kanazawa).
