IRON SUKASHI TSUBA
Japan, Edo period, ca. 1800
A relatively thin marugata tsuba with a design of flowers and grasses in yo-sukashi. Parts with gold nunome-zogan displaying morning dew . The kozuka-hitsu-ana filled in with shakudo, the seppa-dai signed ‘Choshu ju Masasada’. Other tsuba by the same artist are in the Church Collection and the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection.
